About Hiawatha Franks : Insurance Professional
As a Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU) and Associate in Risk Management (ARM), Hiawatha Franks has steadily built a successful career within the workers’ compensation claims industry. He also has an Associate in Insurance Services and completed a General Insurance program. While these certifications helped him advance into leadership roles with companies such as The Hartford and American International Group, Inc. (AIG), he was first introduced to business management in the insurance industry while still in school. Hiawatha Franks graduated from Texas State University with a Bachelor of Business Administration and then began his workers’ compensation insurance career with Texas Mutual Insurance Company.
Hiawatha Franks accepted a position as the organization’s Claims Adjuster and Proceedings Analyst in 1993. He worked there for five years before beginning his claims management path in 1998 with the Texas Association of School Boards (TASB). He successfully improved TASB’s claims service quality and was quickly elevated to Claims Director. In this role, he presided over fifty employees who managed roughly 6,500 workers’ compensation claims.
Next, Hiawatha Franks joined The Hartford’s Houston, Texas claims center in 2005. As a Claims Manager, he oversaw a large team of workers’ compensation professionals located within an eleven-state territory. He was also responsible for running a claims center with more than 100 personnel. After two years, he moved on to AIG to work as a Field Claim Director leading the company’s claims center staffing, recruitment, and operations. He returned to The Hartford in 2009 to work as Claims Director of Workers’ Compensation before being promoted to Director of Small Commercial Programs.
Hiawatha Franks recognizes that his emphasis on collaboration and ability to motivate employees have fueled his successful track record of managing large teams of professionals within multi-state territories. He plans to use these skills, in conjunction with what he learned after completing Walden University’s MBA in Risk Management, to ensure continued success in his career.
When Hiawatha Franks has free time, he enjoys cycling and other outdoor fitness activities. He is also an avid traveler.
